On July 8th, the Tokyo Conference on Afghanistan was held for the second time in 10 years in at the Prince Park Tower Hotel in Tokyo. As part of the mutual commitments made by the international community and Afghanistan at the Bonn conference last December, the Afghan government in turn will lay out its plan for economic reform and continued steps toward good governance. Hamid Karzai, Afghanistan President, Yoshihiko Noda, Japanese Prime Minister, Ban Ki-Moon, The United Nations Secretary General, H.E. Mme. Sadako Ogata, Adviser to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Japan H.E. Dr. Zalmai Rassoul, , Afghan Co-chairs, Foreign Minister, H.E. Dr. Omar Zakhilwal, Minister of Finance and other government officials attended the conference. H.E. Mr. Hamad Ahmed Abdulaziz Alamer, Head of delegation, Undersecretary Regional Affairs and GCC, H.E. Dr. Khalil Hassan, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain Embassy to Japan, Ms. Muneera Nofal Aldoseri, Diplomatic Attaché from Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bahrain, had attended. At the conference, delegates reaffirmed importance of continuous support from international organizations and Afghanistan government proposed to reform governance in order to combat issue of corruption. International community agreed to monitor the progress and it was adopted as “Tokyo Declaration”.
