On January 21, 2016, H.E. Dr. Khalil Hassan, Ambassador, attended the reception for the Establishment of World Tsunami Awareness Day which was hosted by H.E. Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan. The resolution to establish November 5 as the World Tsunami Awareness day, submitted by 142 co-sponsor states including Japan, was adopted by consensus at the UN General Assembly in New York on December 23 (December 22 local time) last year. This reception was held to express gratitude of the Japanese government to the ambassadors in Japan of the UN member states and relevant stakeholders in Japan (such as Diet members and heads of international organizations). Also, Japan’s knowledge and experience in the field of disaster risk reduction and future initiatives relating to the World Tsunami Awareness Day were disseminated to the attendees.
